Mattermost is seeking a Senior Solution Architect to join our EMEA and APAC GTM team. In this role, you will take end-to-end technical ownership of Mattermost-based solutions for customers and partners in Germany and selected Northern European markets, including the Nordics, Baltics, and Netherlands.

This role focuses on defense, intelligence, public sector, and NATO-related environments. You will combine architectural leadership, stakeholder engagement, hands-on technical delivery, and ownership of key technology and system integrator partnerships to establish secure, self-hosted collaboration platforms in highly mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical ownership of secure collaboration solutions built on Mattermost for defense, public sector, critical infrastructure, and NATO-related organizations

  • Run requirements and architecture workshops with IT, security, architecture teams, business units, and executive stakeholders

  • Translate operational goals, threat models, and regulatory constraints into scalable, secure solution architectures

  • Design end-to-end Mattermost architectures in high-security environments (on-premises and sovereign cloud), including:

    • Network integration

    • Identity and access management (SSO, SAML, OIDC, LDAP)

    • Logging and monitoring integrations

    • Data protection and security controls

  • Guide customers through the full technical lifecycle: discovery, concept design, proof of concept, pilot, hardening, production rollout, and scale

  • Develop and deliver compelling technical demos, workshops, and use-case presentations for mission-critical scenarios such as situational awareness, incident response, and operational coordination

  • Own technical responses for RFI/RFP submissions, security questionnaires, and architecture reviews in partnership with Sales, Product, Security, Legal, and Compliance

  • Represent Mattermost in engagements with NATO stakeholders, defense contractors, and government authorities

  • Ensure solution designs align with applicable security, regulatory, and classified information handling requirements (including German and NATO frameworks)

  • Build and grow technical relationships with hyperscalers, technology partners, and system integrators

  • Drive partner enablement through training, reference architectures, reusable assets, and joint solution development

  • Provide structured feedback to Product and Engineering on roadmap priorities, feature gaps, and competitive insights

  • Represent Mattermost at relevant industry and community event

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role (Solution Architect, Pre-Sales Engineer, Sales Engineer, or Systems Engineer) within B2B software or cybersecurity

  • Experience supporting public sector, defense, or critical infrastructure environments preferred

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, including Linux, networking, reverse proxies, TLS, APIs, and modern web technologies

  • Experience integrating applications into enterprise security stacks and identity environments (SSO, SAML, OIDC, LDAP, directory services)

  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering mission-critical solutions with high security, availability, and compliance requirements

  • Ability to translate complex, sometimes security-sensitive requirements into clear architecture designs and implementation roadmaps

  • Excellent communication skills in German (near-native) and English (business fluent), with the ability to engage both technical and executive audiences

  • Experience collaborating with hyperscalers, system integrators, and technology partners on joint customer engagements

  • Proficiency with structured selling methodologies such as MEDDPICC

  • Willingness to travel within DACH, Benelux, Nordics, and Baltic regions

  • Experience participating in formal RFI and RFP processes

  • Ability to leverage generative AI tools to increase productivity and accelerate solution development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with defense contractors, armed forces, ministries, or security agencies in Germany or other NATO countries

  • Background with cybersecurity or defense-technology vendors (secure collaboration, endpoint security, SIEM/SOAR, IAM)

  • Experience introducing and operating open-source software in regulated or security-critical environments

  • Familiarity with German, EU, and NATO security and regulatory frameworks

  • Proven success building technical partnerships with system integrators and channel partners

  • Fluency in additional European languages

  • Existing German national security clearance suitable for NATO-related and defense/public-sector work, or eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain required clearances

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to shape secure collaboration in defense, NATO-related, and public-sector environments using an open, self-hosted platform for mission-critical work

  • A remote-first role based in Germany with high ownership and direct engagement with customers and partners across Northern Europe

  • Competitive compensation including performance-based variable components aligned with the seniority of the role

  • High visibility and direct impact on strategic customer projects, partner ecosystem development, and Mattermost’s security strategy
