About Maxima

Nobody went into accounting to spend the first week of every month matching transactions by hand. Maxima was built so they don't have to. Our agents do the accounting work itself: journal entries, transaction matching, reconciliations, and flux analysis, in real time and to SOX standards. Accountants review and approve. Nothing posts without a person signing off. We remove the grind, not the human.

Maxima is the first agentic AI platform for enterprise accounting. Our founders oversaw the finance org at Rubrik and built the month-end close systems at Twitter and Netflix. We've raised $41M from Redpoint Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, and Audacious Ventures, and we're backed by finance leaders at OpenAI, Rubrik, and Vanta. We are early, we are growing fast, and we are hiring people who would rather build the category than join it. Here is one way to do that.

The role

You will be our first Founding QA Engineer in Toronto, and you will own quality for a product that prepares accounting work for enterprise customers, where a missed edge case shows up in someone's books. Maxima's agents prepare journal entries, match transactions, and reconcile accounts, and controllers approve what they produce, so the product has to be right in the ordinary cases and in the strange ones: the many-to-many match, the multi-entity close, the reconciliation that does not tie out.

The first job is coverage: growing the end-to-end suite in Playwright, using AI to generate tests, keeping the existing suite healthy, and testing edge cases by hand. Once that is in a good state, you will also fix bugs and build features alongside the rest of the team, and you will shape how the Toronto engineering team thinks about quality from the start.

Our team is tight-knit, and we look for people who take initiative and feel a strong sense of ownership.

What you'll do

• Increase end-to-end test coverage with Playwright, using AI to generate tests

• Maintain the existing test suite and keep it fast and trustworthy

• Test edge cases manually, especially the accounting scenarios automated tests miss

• Reproduce, triage, and document bugs so engineers can fix them quickly

• Wire tests into CI so a build fails when something breaks

• Fix bugs and implement new features once coverage is in a reasonable state
  

What we're looking for

• Knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Playwright

• Experience building or maintaining end-to-end test suites for a web application

• An eye for edge cases and the patience to test them by hand

• Comfort using AI tools to write and maintain tests

• Care about correctness; you notice when a number is off

• Initiative and a strong sense of ownership
  

Nice to have

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions

• Experience testing financial, accounting, or other data-heavy products

• Experience contributing product code alongside test code
  

Where and how you'll work

This role is based in our downtown Toronto office, near Union Station. We value in-person collaboration and are in office four to five days a week for our on-site roles.
