Developer Relations Lead at Restate

Restate (restate.dev) is a lightweight runtime that turns AI agents, workflows, and backend services into durable processes - so teams can focus on their logic, not failure mechanics.

The role: Durable execution is becoming a foundational piece of the AI infrastructure stack, but most developers haven’t connected the dots yet. There’s a real gap between what Restate can do and what the wider community thinks durable execution is for. This role exists to close it.

Think of the DevRel Lead as part community- and part editorial lead. You’ll grow our community of 10,000+ developers, help shape the direction for everything we publish, and bring sharper instinct to how we launch. You’ll work alongside the Restate founders and early engineers. You bring strategy, distribution, and a sense of what lands.

The opportunity

Front-row seat to the biggest infra shift in decades

Durable runtimes like Restate are becoming the next foundational infrastructure component - and increasingly a critical piece for AI applications. As systems become more agentic, long-running, integration-heavy, and failure-prone, durable execution turns reliability from a bespoke engineering tax into a default property. In this role, you’re not watching that shift from the sidelines - you help build the platform that enables it.

State-of-the-art tech, built from first principles

Restate re-imagines durable execution as a lightweight self-contained stack - no database required - and ships as a single Rust binary with an optimized custom storage layer, low latency orchestration, and an analytics engine for observability.

Enterprise Traction

Restate is already used by Fortune 500 companies, including Tier 1 banks running critical financial workflows, and also by cutting-edge AI and infra startups pushing the boundary of what “production-grade agents” mean. You’ll work on problems where reliability, correctness, and operational simplicity are existential.

Work with world-class engineers

You’ll partner directly with engineers who’ve built and operated foundational systems at scale - creators of Apache Flink, and leaders from Meta’s messaging infrastructure. You’ll have the chance to work with incredibly talented individuals who care deeply about their craft.

What you’ll do

The role lives across three things: getting the right developers to know about Restate (awareness), staying close to the community using it (product & community), and helping them succeed once they do (education). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Set the editorial direction for developer content: blogs, tutorials, sample apps, video, conference talks. Then drive execution of those artifacts.

  • Run the launches and public moments: product launches, community highlights, success stories to ensure that Restate is highly relevant in the right conversations

  • Grow and animate the community across Slack, Discord, and GitHub. Show up daily where developers are, and surface what they’re struggling with back into the team.

  • Partner with Restate’s founders and engineers on on docs, tutorials, and examples.

What we’re looking for

  • Someone technical: you don’t have to be an engineer, but you can sit through a design review, follow it, and translate it for a wider audience.

  • A real writer: you have a public body of work incl. posts, talks, shipped projects that developers in our space already trust.

  • Marketing instinct. You know the difference between a launch that lands and one that doesn’t, and you can run one end-to-end.

  • Excited about AI infrastructure and durable execution. You can talk about both in a way that resonates with engineers building systems at scale.

  • AI fluency: you naturally leverage AI to amplify your own work. You also understand how AI impacts search patterns and ensure that Restate stays top of mind for humans and agents.

  • Happy defining a developer-led motion rather than running someone else’s playbook.

We’re open on background. Strong candidates might have done this work at a developer-led company before, but we’re equally interested in engineers, technical writers, builders from AI infra, backend, or distributed systems whose public work already gives them credibility.

Location and travel

  • US-based, fully remote. SF Bay Area strongly preferred given vicinity to AI companies and the broader developer community. Remote US can work for the right person.

  • Expect 20 - 30% travel for conferences, meetups, and offsites.
