Red Hat’s Open Source Program Office is looking for a Principal Community Architect to help drive Red Hat’s telecommunications and edge computing community strategy. In this role, you will work with stakeholders across the business to scope, build out, and enhance processes for engaging with the specialized affinity communities across industry markets, with a primary focus on the telecommunications space. This role is responsible for convening stakeholders from engineering, the Office of the CTO, products, marketing, and sales to determine the decision criteria for evaluating how and where the business chooses to allocate resources in support of related telecommunications and edge community engagements. You will apply this criteria to help Red Hat define and execute its strategy for successfully engaging in these markets.

You will work with the Industry Community Architecture team to develop proposals for engaging in new communities based on learnings from the OSPO’s past and ongoing support of Red Hat’s Telco and Edge teams; stewarding and refining this engagement plan in an iterative loop with senior individual contributors across the business will be your primary focus. As part of the process for onboarding new communities, you will be responsible for understanding and sharing insights from the community landscape to inform the business’ decision process. The successful candidate in this role will also step into iterating upon existing strategy and handling day to day care and feeding of communities in which Red Hat has an existing and sustained investment. If you have community-building experience, demonstrated contributions to open source projects, and the ability to align business and customer needs with open source community efforts, this role is for you. A successful candidate will leverage strong community relationships and develop deep relationships across Red Hat to create dialog and collaboration across stakeholder groups while providing objective insights based on data to inform decision making. This position requires some international travel. Successful applicants must reside in EMEA, in a country where Red Hat is registered to do business.

What you’ll do

  • Strategic development and planning: Develop and implement strategies for effective participation in open source projects and communities, with a focus on telecommunications, networking, Edge computing, and related technologies.

  • Community engagement: Manage the interaction between internal teams and external open source foundations and communities, fostering collaboration and contribution.

  • Relationship building: Develop relationships within strategic communities/projects to help us succeed in our strategic goals.

  • Conflict resolution: Mediate and resolve conflicts between internal teams and external community members when necessary.

  • Project management: Lead and coordinate internal open source community engagement, ensuring alignment with company goals and open source community standards.

  • Community management: Directly manage smaller strategic open source communities, nurturing growth and fostering a positive environment.

  • Metrics and reporting: Track and report on key performance indicators related to open source engagement and project progress.

  • Outreach: Expand the visibility of Red Hat as an industry leader in open source by representing the company at open source events, conferences, and online forums to build relationships and promote the company’s open source initiatives.

  • Compliance: Ensure all open source contributions and usage comply with relevant licenses and company policies.

What you’ll bring

  • Solid understanding of the telecommunications and edge computing software spaces.

  • 5+ years of working experience in the open source industry.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work associated with both short- and long-term goals.

  • Experience with software development, open source developer communities, and understanding of development processes.

  • Ability to lead teams and participate in multiple cross-organizational teams.

  • Experience motivating volunteers and staff across departments and companies.

  • Familiarity with developer tools, continuous integration, containers, git, collaboration, and cloud native technologies in general.

  • Familiarity with social media.

  • Relationships in prominent open source communities are a plus.
