As the VP of Merchandising Operations, you will lead the development of our merchandising strategy, utilizing advanced analytics and data insights to make informed decisions about product assortment, pricing and promotions, as well as how to operationalize our differentiated assortment and grow revenue. With a relentless focus on our Members, you will design our product assortment to reflect our commitment to convenience and sustainability. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, your role will be instrumental in identifying future opportunities—like private label and other new verticals—managing the merchandising P&L, and driving overall profitability of our assortment of both goods and services, like composting. Merchandising is one of the core functions that drive our company forward, and you will own making our strategies cohesive and integrated across the organization. You will lead and develop a high-performing merchandising team and foster cross-functional collaboration.

You Will:

  • Lead the development of our merchandising strategy, identifying future opportunities to monetize offerings and meet Member needs (e.g., new recurring goods and services, more local offerings, private label).
  • Manage the Merchandising P&L, driving profitability through COGS management, SKU adoption and retention.
  • Utilize data insights to inform product assortment, pricing, and promotions, collaborating with cross functional teams to enhance our Psychic Home Manager.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, securing favorable terms to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality products at competitive prices.
  • Foster a high-performing merchandising team, conducting one-on-one and staff meetings to address developmental opportunities and ensure excellence.

You Are:

  • Highly operationally minded, collaborating cross-functionally with departments such as growth, product development, and supply chain to integrate and execute cohesive merchandising strategies.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with a data-driven decision-making approach. You use advanced analytics to make informed decisions.
  • Strategic and able to recognize and resolve situations that are ambiguous or challenging. You excel in defining strategic frameworks and navigating complex situations with clear direction, ensuring business success.
  • A strong leader, skilled in cross-functional stakeholder management, change management, and communication. You inspire and manage teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring effective communication and stakeholder alignment.
  • Passionate about sustainability. You are excited to lead sustainability efforts through initiatives like reusable packaging and eco-friendly innovations.

You Have:

  • More than 10 years of merchandising experience, ideally in a subscription business, or similar consumer goods company.
  • Experience in the food and grocery industry, bonus if you’ve worked directly with local businesses
  • Experience negotiating buying terms with vendors (packaging, price, quantity, delivery/payment terms).
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in P&L ownership.
  • Excellent communication skills and proven collaboration skills to work cross-functionally and as a team leader.
The salary range for this role based in NYC is the range of $150,000-$220,000. Compensation is determined by skill level and years of experience required for this role.
